Head Coach

Chappy

My volleyball history spans over 30 years in a variety of capacities from: player, player/coach, coach, and referee.  As a recent retired military member I coached at four local high school varsity teams in three states and at one overseas base; five USAV club teams in Washington, North Carolina, Virginia, Alaska and California; coached/played men’s military varsity teams in Texas, Alaska and Washington.  As a player and coach I have been a part of 12 championships spanning 30 years.  My position has always been a setter and I have learned and gleaned many different styles of playing the position and adjusting to my play on teams I played.  One of my favorite quotes is “Systems do not dig balls, players do.”

Philosophy

My philosophy is to develop, mentor and inspire athletes to be leaders and great citizens through volleyball and promote an environment where athletes can be challenged to compete above their current skill level.  I see myself as a relevant, creative and seasoned technical coach and teacher with the ability to introduce and correct mechanics and translate learning to an effective and efficient skill level.  Most importantly I am able to create a positive team environment and team synergy to include players, parents, coaches and club staff. Additionally, I use iStatVball at tournaments to help drive practices and areas for improvement. I use other video programs like “Clips, Coach’s Eye, and Slowmo” to help with form.  The use of Pocket Radar allows me to improve serving competency and effectiveness.  Ultimately, the goal is to ensure I’m not any player’s last coach.
